The Association of Manitoba Book Publishers (AMBP), representing a diverse group of Manitoba publishing houses, coordinates joint marketing projects such as Prairie Books NOW (a magazine dedicated to Prairie publishers and writers) and Manitoba Book Week (a week-long celebration of Manitoba publishing); and advocates for the continued evolution of one of Manitoba’s most culturally dynamic industries – publishing.

Brave New Words Manitoba Book Awards
|
The Manitoba Book Awards are presented annually at Brave New Words, the Manitoba Writing and Publishing Awards gala held in spring which caps off Manitoba Book Week. The 15 awards are presented for works in French and English, including the City of Winnipeg’s $5,000 prize, the Carol Shields Winnipeg Book Award.

Carol Shields Winnipeg Book Award
|
In 1999 the City of Winnipeg established its first book award. The first Carol Shields Winnipeg Book Award was presented in 2000 at Brave New Words, the Manitoba Literary Awards. The Award is a juried annual prize honouring books which evoke the special character, and contribute to the appreciation and understanding of Winnipeg. All genres are eligible. The Call for Submissions is issued in late fall. The Award and its $5000 prize are presented at Brave New Words, the Manitoba Writing and Publishing Awards Gala. For submission forms by mail or for information please contact Winnipeg Arts Council.

Winnipeg International Writers Festival

THIN AIR is literary celebration, an annual week-long festival of readings, panel discussions, school shows, book signings, and professional development opportunities. It engages new and established writers, and is enjoyed by thousands of Manitobans of all ages and backgrounds in both English and French.
