Working Together to Build Strong Communities
Since the inception of our municipal government in 1893, Volunteers have provided countless hours of service to the City of Winnipeg and its communities. The Volunteer Services Branch promotes and supports the volunteer spirit that is the heart and soul of our great City. Many thanks to our most valued Volunteers!
Continue the Tradition
Today, hundreds of citizens like you give their time and talents to the City of Winnipeg by continuing the tradition set forth by our first VOLUNTEERS. We offer several meaningful volunteer service opportunities for citizens.
Volunteering…It’s a way of Giving
When you volunteer, you give part of yourself – your time, energy, skills and feelings. You give to your family and friends, to your neighbours, to your community. Giving is one of the reasons why people volunteer. Their contributions to others and to their communities bring them feelings of self-fulfillment and the knowledge that they have made a difference.
…and a way of Receiving
But there is more to volunteering than giving. As a volunteer, you also reap personal benefits and enhance your personal growth.
Through volunteering you are able to:
- Increase social awareness
- Meet new people
- Learn through service
- Enjoy better health
- Gain self-confidence
- Discover your strengths and talents
- Build a sense of independence
- Contribute to your community
- Develop skills
- Enhance the quality of life
That’s the thing about volunteering. You get as much out of it as you put into it! And often, you get a whole lot more. Volunteering is an infinitely rewarding experience that enriches the lives of many people.
The Community Support and Volunteer Services Branch are assisting the SPIN initiative by promoting volunteerism and matching potential volunteers with neighbourhood Host sites of SPIN.
The Community Support and Volunteer Services Branch will screen and interview potential volunteers coming through the City of Winnipeg volunteer system interested in volunteering with SPIN.
