Can parents bring snacks from home to be shared at the daycare?
The City recommends that all food be prepared or handled in the kitchen of the daycare. For further information, contact the City at 311.

What kind of pets can a daycare have?
The daycare coordinator will set limits on the types of pets allowed in a daycare.  The most important rule about having animals/ pets in a daycare is to ensure the children properly wash their hands immediately after handling any animal.  some of the most commonly seen pets include: domestic cats and dogs, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, gerbils, mice, rats, tropical fish, small birds (budgies, canaries, finches).  The daycare operator must keep the pet area clean and sanitary at all times. 

Prohibited pets include: exotic birds, turtles, and poisonous reptiles (snakes, Iguanas, lizards), spiders, ferrets and chinchillas.

How can I get my new daycare centre inspected and opened?
Contact your Daycare Coordinator to advise inspection required and they will contact district inspector.

The daycare has no water or there is a sewage backup, can they continue to operate?
Any daycare facility or food service establishment cannot operate where the water or sewage system is not functioning properly.  Contact the City at 311 to register a complaint.

What kind of pest control can be used in a daycare?
The city recommends that daycares use a professional exterminator when dealing with pest problems.
