Violation Process

The City inspects food service establishments:

  • on a routine basis
  • as the result of a complaint
  • to investigate foodborne illnesses

In order to correct violations, the City may:
- issue a written deficiency order
- suspend or withdraw an operating permit
- deem conditions or premises insanitary
- proceed with a prosecution

All closures and convictions are legal processes under Manitoba Provincial Food and Food Handling Establishments Regulation and City of Winnipeg Food Service Establishment Bylaw

Deficiency orders can be appealed under certain circumstances.  The procedure to file an appeal is listed on the deficiency order.
