Roadside Memorial Regulation Objectives

The following needs were considered in the development of regulations for roadside memorials:

• Provide rules concerning erecting and maintaining roadside memorials that balance the need for friends and relatives to memorialize their loved ones while ensuring the safety of the travelling public and respecting the views of adjacent property owners and the general public.
  
• Regulate size, location, duration and maintenance of roadside memorials.
• Ensure that the roadside memorial does not constitute a hazard or obstruction to vehicles or pedestrians.
• Protect infrastructure within the right-of-way and enable the City to undertake required construction and maintenance activities in areas occupied by roadside memorials.
• Facilitate enforcement of regulations for roadside memorials when issues arise.
