For the 1998 Civic Election, the City of Winnipeg will again be utilizing Automated Voting. NEWS RELEASE

On Wednesday, September 30, 1998, nominations officially closed for the October 28, 1998 Civic Election for the Offices of Mayor, Councillor, and School Trustees for School Divisions within the boundaries of the City of Winnipeg.
In accordance with The City of Winnipeg Act and The local Authorities Election Act, a nomination paper for Henry McDonald, a Councillor candidate in the Elmwood Ward, was rejected by the City's Returning Officer, Dorothy Browton, as the candidate is not eligible to be nominated as a candidate in accordance with subsection 100(3) of The City of Winnipeg Act, not having filed an audited statement for the 1995 Election:
Failure to file by other candidates
100 (3)	A person who, as a registered candidate in an election, is not nominated as a candidate in the election or is nominated and defeated or withdraws and fails to comply with subsection 96(2.1) (time for filing audited statements) is not eligible to be nominated as a candidate until after the next election described in Section 89 (election of council).

The election for the Offices of Mayor, Councillor, and School Trustee for school divisions within the boundaries of the City of Winnipeg will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 1998.	Les élections en vue du choix du maire, des conseillers municipaux et des commissaires d'écoles de Winnipeg auront lieu le mercredi 28 octobre 1998.
Eligible electors whose names are on the List of Electors will receive a Voters Notice in the mail in the first week of October advising where to vote on Election Day.
