The largest Francophone settlement in Western Canada, the
Rural Municipality of St. Boniface
was incorporated in 1880, became a Town in 1883, and a City in 1908.
The first
Council
for the Rural Municipality of St. Boniface met in 1880. Roger Marion and Joseph
Joyal both served as Préfet
(Reeve)
that year. The first Council for the Town of St. Boniface met in 1883 with
T. A. Bernier as Mayor. The first Council for the City of St. Boniface met in 1908, with J. Alfred Bleau as Mayor.
