RECORDS MANAGEMENT SERVICES

Transferring Records to Archives & Records Control

Before preparing records for transfer, first contact your Department’s Records Manager or email City of Winnipeg Archives.

Records must be transferred under Records Management By-law 86/2010. The By-law classifies City Records as either Temporary or Archival.

Temporary Records are records that can be destroyed after being retained for a specified period as designated by the by-law.

Archival Records are records that have been judged by the City Archivist to possess enduring historical or other value. Ownership of archival records will eventually be transferred to Archives & Records Control for appraisal and possible permanent retention.

There are separate procedures for transferring Temporary Records and Archival Records. Transfer instructions and forms are found below. If you have any questions about the instructions or forms, email City of Winnipeg Archives.
