Records Management Services

Records Management at the City of Winnipeg is governed by By-law 86/2010. All City employees are required to create, manage and dispose of their records in accordance with the by-law.

Records Management Services is responsible for overseeing the City of Winnipeg’s records management programs and providing advice, training and other resources to City staff. We also provide storage space for the records of City departments.


Transferring Records to Archives & Records Control

Records must be transferred under Records Management By-law 86/2010. The By-law classifies City Records as either Temporary or Archival.


Destruction of Records

All records created or received while performing City business must be disposed of in accordance with Records Management By-law 86/2010.


Retrieving Records from Archives and Records Control

All requests for records retrievals should be sent to City of Winnipeg Archives. Requests can be for boxes or individual files. For more detailed instructions on requesting records, consult the document below.

Records Management Education and Training

Records management workshops are regularly offered through the City’s Corporate Education program. For more information, consult the Corporate Education Calendar or email City of Winnipeg Archives.
