The Winnipeg Police Board's Strategic Plan for the Winnipeg Police Service

The Winnipeg Police Board has a mandate to establish priorities for the Winnipeg Police Service and present them in a multi-year strategic plan for the Police Service to implement. Every year, the Board consults with the community to update the strategic plan so that it continues to reflect the community’s needs, values and expectations.

Background

The Winnipeg Police Board was established in 2013. Under Manitoba’s Police Services Act, the Board has a mandate that includes a responsibility to establish priorities and objectives for the Winnipeg Police Service. The Board must ensure those priorities reflect community needs, values and expectations.

In May 2015, the Board published the 2015-2019 Strategic Plan for the Winnipeg Police Service. After sharing the strategic plan with the public, the Board asked for feedback on whether it addressed the policing and safety issues that mattered most to citizens. The Board published an updated strategic plan in December 2015.

The primary objective of the Board’s consultation meetings is to provide citizens with an opportunity to comment on whether the strategic plan continues to address the issues that concern them, or to identify emerging priorities that should be considered for the updated strategic plan.
