WINNIPEG - April 7, 2010 - Animal Services will hold a FIRST EVER "License-a-thon" and open house on Saturday, April 17, 2010 from 12 Noon to 4pm at 1057 Logan Avenue. Anyone who purchases a new dog license at the event will receive a coupon for a $10 micro-chip. A micro-chip, coupled with a license, provides the ultimate protection for your dog. Many dogs will also be available for adoption at the event.
At a cost of $26.00 for a spayed or neutered dog, and $61.00 for an un-spayed or un-neutered dog, a license is an invaluable investment for your dog's well being.
"We want to get lost dogs back to their owners as soon as possible, and a current license is the best way to help our staff make that connection," said Leland Gordon, Animal Services COO. "Unfortunately, only about 10% of the stray dogs that enter Animal Services come in wearing a dog license."
Dogs over six months of age are required under City By-Law to have and wear a license. In most cases, a dog license helps pet owners avoid impound and boarding fees and a $250.00 fine.
