WINNIPEG - March 30, 2010 - Residents in the City’s Northwest Area with back-lane automated garbage cart collection will be able to place their cart on the same side of the lane as their property starting Monday, April 19 (Day 2 on the Recycling and Garbage Collection Calendar).

Until April 19, residents must continue to place their garbage cart on the hydro-pole side of the back-lane or in a location specified by the City.

Residents will receive a brochure outlining this change.  The brochure will also provide details on the new Bi-weekly Spring and Fall Yard Waste Collection program for the Northwest Area, as well as information on switching to a larger cart and/or getting a second cart for an annual fee.

Information on these changes will also be available on the City’s web site at winnipeg.ca/waterandwaste.

About 42,000 dwellings in the Northwest Area changed from manual garbage collection to automated collection in February.  On February 24, 2010, Council approved changes to the automated garbage cart collection program in the Northwest Area to introduce two-sided back-lane collection, a new bi-weekly spring and fall yard waste collection program and options for switching to a larger cart and/or getting a second cart for an annual fee.
