Katz shuffles EPC portfolios: Mayor will also resume role of Intergovernmental Affairs

WINNIPEG, November 2, 2009 – Committed to focusing on the priorities of Winnipeggers and bringing fresh ideas to the leadership roles of standing committees, Mayor Sam Katz today announced several changes to the roles of Executive Policy Committee members.

"I am pleased today to announce some key changes to the roles of Executive Policy Committee," said Mayor Sam Katz. "I look forward to seeing new ideas and working with members of EPC to ensure we are meeting the priorities of Winnipeggers. I want to thank all Councillors for working on their respective portfolios and I look forward to working with them as they serve our citizens in their new roles."

The Executive Policy Committee will be composed of the following members:

Councillor Bill Clement (Charleswood – Tuxedo) – Chair of Infrastructure Renewal and Public Works

Councillor Scott Fielding (St. James - Brooklands) – Chair of Finance

Councillor Mike Pagtakhan (Point Douglas) – Chair of Protection and Community Services, and Chair of the Winnipeg Housing Steering Committee

Councillor Gord Steeves (St. Vital) – Chair of Property and Development, and Acting Deputy Mayor

Councillor Justin Swandel (St. Norbert) – Chair of Downtown Development and Deputy Mayor

Councillor Mike O’Shaughnessy (Old Kildonan) – Secretary of Strategic Infrastructure Renewal

Mayor Sam Katz also announced that he would preside as the Secretary of Intergovernmental Affairs, as well as retain his current role of Secretary of Urban Aboriginal Affairs.

"As our City continues to face new challenges and continues to address outstanding priorities, I believe it is important as Mayor to continue to work diligently with both the Federal and Provincial governments," said Katz. "The problems that face our city will only be solved by all governments working together, and I remain committed to working towards those goals."

The membership of all Standing Policy Committees will be finalized during the November 4th organizational meeting of City Council.
