WINNIPEG - May 20, 2009 - The City of Winnipeg Public Works Department will be conducting a controlled burn at Living Prairie Museum on Ness Avenue between Tuesday, May 20 and Friday, May 29 - weather conditions permitting.

The controlled burn will be conducted in minimal wind conditions with appropriate fire guards in place.

Fire plays an important role in the preservation and restoration of prairies. Lack of fire allows weeds to invade these endangered plant communities. Controlled burns have been safely conducted by the Naturalist Services Branch on Winnipeg’s tall grass prairie since 1986.
