Annual Snow Route Overnight Parking Ban will be Lifted Saturday, February 28, 2009 at 6:01 a.m.

Bill Larkin, Director of Public Works, announced the Snow Route Overnight Parking Ban will be lifted effective 6:01 a.m. Saturday morning, February 28, 2009. The Snow Route Overnight Parking Ban runs annually from December 1 to March 1 and is undertaken pursuant to the terms of By-law No. 6288/93. WINNIPEG - February 27, 2009 - Bill Larkin, Director of Public Works, announced the Snow Route Overnight Parking Ban will be lifted effective 6:01 a.m. Saturday morning, February 28, 2009.

The ban prohibits parking between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. on all streets designated as Snow Routes.

Larkin thanked Winnipeggers for their cooperation in observing the ban. He said, “The absence of parked cars allows snow crews to effectively maintain our priority routes during the winter.”

The Snow Route Overnight Parking Ban runs annually from December 1 to March 1 and is undertaken pursuant to the terms of By-law No. 6288/93.

Spring Summer 2009 Leisure Guide is Here

The Spring/Summer Leisure Guide is now available at all civic libraries, indoor pools, arenas, leisure centres and at over 200+ retail locations including Safeway, 7-Eleven and Mac’s. WINNIPEG - February 27, 2009 - The Spring/Summer Leisure Guide is now available at all civic libraries, indoor pools, arenas, leisure centres and at over 200+ retail locations including Safeway, 7-Eleven and Mac’s. The Leisure Guide can also be viewed on-line at www.winnipeg.ca

Registration begins Monday, March 2, 2009, using one of the following methods:

  • On-line at www.winnipeg.ca/leisureonline
  • Phone-in: 311, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
  • Mail: Recreation Services, Main Floor, 395 Main Street, R3B 3N8
  • Drop-off registration: Main Floor, 395 Main Street; Fort Rouge Leisure Centre, 625 Osborne Street; Freight House Recreation Complex, 200 Isabel Street; St. James Civic Centre, 2055 Ness Avenue.
  • In-Person: Main Floor, 395 Main Street; any City of Winnipeg indoor pool.

Leisure Guide registrations through the 311 Contact Centre will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, March 2, 2009. Additional 311 customer service representatives will be in place to take Leisure Guide registrations; due to the heavy volume of calls which we experience during the first day of registration, there may be some increase in call wait times. We appreciate the public’s patience as we work to complete these registrations as quickly as possible.

Included in our exciting line-up of recreation, leisure and aquatic program opportunities, the City of Winnipeg offers lifesaving programs with an emphasis on water smart behavior, as well as enhanced lifesaving programs that focus on lifesaving education and training. These programs are the Lifesaving Swim Patrol programs and the Lifesaving Bronze Family Awards programs. The Lifesaving Swim Patrol programs’ major components are water proficiency, first-aid and emergency response recognition. The Lifesaving Bronze Family Awards programs teach lifesaving principles, emergency procedures and teamwork. The Bronze Family Awards programs are considered entry programs for the National Lifeguard Service Award (NLS).
