2009 Election - City of WinnipegWINNIPEG - February 11, 2009 - A By-election for the Office of Councillor in the River Heights / Fort Garry Ward and the Office of School Trustee in Winnipeg School Division, Ward 1, will be held on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The final list of Candidates for the Office of Councillor in the River Heights / Fort Garry Ward is:

John Orlikow, 936 Dorchester Street

The final list of Candidates for the Office of School Trustee in the Winnipeg School Division, Ward 1, is:

Update Regarding Collection of Garbage and Recycling
Day 4 collection has resumed due to improved road conditions today

The public is advised that garbage and recycling collection has resumed. Today is Day 4 on the 5 Day Collection Calendar. Although collection may take longer today than usual due to icy conditions, Day 4 collection is expected to be completed by the end of the day. WINNIPEG - February 11, 2009 - The public is advised that garbage and recycling collection has resumed. Today is Day 4 on the 5 Day Collection Calendar. Although collection may take longer today than usual due to icy conditions, Day 4 collection is expected to be completed by the end of the day. Icy conditions still persist in many areas and collection will take longer as collection workers are using extra caution to pick up garbage and recycling today.

Residents are urged to use caution when in the vicinity of crews and equipment that are working.

IMPORTANT

  • For customers that didn’t receive Day 2 collection, please take in your recycling and garbage until the next regularly scheduled collection day, Tuesday, February 17, 2009.
  • For customers that didn’t receive Day 3 collection, please take in your recycling and garbage until the next regularly scheduled collection day, Wednesday, February 18, 2009.
  • The Brady Road Landfill is open for all customers, however, customers are advised to use caution both in and around the landfill, as some areas are still slippery.

Native Prairie Planting Workshops

John Morgan of Prairie Habitats Inc. will be at Living Prairie Museum to teach you everything you need to know about planting with native prairie plants. (for more details, please read the full media release below)

WINNIPEG - February 11, 2009 - John Morgan of Prairie Habitats Inc., a veteran of prairie planting and restoration, will be at Living Prairie Museum to teach you everything you need to know about planting with native prairie plants. During this 3-hour workshop, learn how Manitoba wildflowers and grasses can be included in your home or cottage landscape design. Workshops will include a slide presentation, discussion and hands-on wildflower seed-planting lab.  No previous gardening experience is necessary.

WHERE:  Living Prairie Museum, 2795 Ness Avenue
DATES: Choose from one of the following dates:
 
  • Wednesday, March 18, 2009 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
  • Sunday, March 22, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, March 31, 2009 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, April 4, 2009 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Registration Fee:  $45.00 plus GST, includes all seeds and materials.
