City of Winnipeg Offices:

All civic offices are closed on Wednesday, December 24, 2008, at noon, and all day on Thursday, December 25, 2008; Friday, December 26, 2008; and Thursday, January 1, 2009.

Recycling/Garbage Collection Schedule for the Holiday Season

The only changes to the regular hours of operation at the Brady Road Landfill during the holidays are:

• Thursday, December 25, 2008 - Closed
• Thursday, January 1, 2009 - Closed

You can recycle:

• Christmas cards
• Cardboard boxes (flattened)
• Plastic packaging with a recycling triangle
• Christmas trees – drop your tree off at any of the nine Let’s Chip In Depots from December 27, 2008 to January 20, 2009.  For more information on the depot locations, call 311, Code 9813.

Holiday materials that are NOT recyclable:

• Christmas wrap and ribbon
• Foam packaging
• Plastic packaging without a recycling triangle

Winnipeg Transit:

Winnipeg Transit will be operating on a Sunday schedule:

• Thursday, December 25, 2008
• Friday, December 26, 2008
• Thursday, January 1, 2009

December 24, 29, 30, 31, 2008 and January 2, 2009:

• Route 21 Portage Express - Reduced service during AM & PM rush hours
• Route 25 Ness Super Express - Cancelled
• Route 41 Henderson Express - Glenway - Cancelled
• Route 46 Transcona Express - Cancelled

Libraries:

On Wednesday, December 24, 2008, the Charleswood, Louis Riel, Pembina Trail, River Heights, Transcona, Westwood, Cornish, Munroe, Osborne, St. John’s, Windsor Park and West End branches will be closed.  All other branches will be open from 10:00 a.m. - noon.

All libraries will be closed on Thursday, December 25, 2008, and Friday, December 26, 2008.  Regular hours of operation will be in effect from Saturday, December 27, 2008 to Tuesday, December 30, 2008.

On Wednesday, December 31, 2008, the Charleswood, Louis Riel, Pembina Trail, River Heights, Transcona, Westwood, Cornish, Munroe, Osborne, St. John’s, Windsor Park and West End branches will be closed. All other branches will be open from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

All branches will be closed on Thursday, January 1, 2009. Regular hours of operation will resume on Friday, January 2, 2009.

Assiniboine Park:

Zoo:

• Open 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. except Thursday, December 25, 2008, when the Zoo is open from noon - 4:00 p.m.

Conservatory:

• Open 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 25, 2008, Friday, December 26, 2008, and Thursday, January 1, 2009.

Swimming Pools:

All pools will close at noon on Wednesday, December 24, 2008, except Transcona Pool which will be closed for the day. Margaret Grant and Bonivital Pools will be open for lap swimming only, from 6:00 a.m. - 8:30 a.m.

All pools will be closed on Thursday, December 25, 2008, and Friday, December 26, 2008.

All pools will close at 4:00 p.m. on December 31, 2008, except Transcona which will be closed for the day. Margaret Grant will be open from 6:15 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. and then from 1:30 pm. - 3:30 p.m.

All pools are closed on Thursday, January 1, 2009.

Leisure Centres:

All Leisure Centres are closed on Wednesday, December 24, 2008, except Fort Rouge Leisure Centre and Peguis Fitness Center (open 6:00 a.m. -  4:00 p.m.), Magnus Eliason Recreation Centre (open 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.) and Freight House Leisure Centre (open 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.)

All Leisure Centers are closed on Thursday, December 25, 2008, Friday, December 26, 2008, and Thursday, January 1, 2009.  Please call your local Leisure Centre for holiday hours or visit the website at www.winnipeg.ca

Animal Services Agency:

The Animal Services Agency is open on Wednesday, December 24, 2008, from 8:30 a.m. - noon and closed Thursday, December 25, 2008, Friday, December 26, 2008, and Thursday, January 1, 2009.

The Animal Services Agency is open on Saturday, December 27, 2008, and Sunday, December 28, 2008, from noon - 5:00 p.m.
