WINNIPEG - November 6, 2008 – Today at 11:00 a.m., The City of Winnipeg continued the tradition of moving a citizen-donated Christmas tree to City Hall.

This year’s tree comes from the yard of Allen Kotowski and Sandra Colles of 271 Fortier Avenue. The tree was selected from 57 candidates and is a 9.14 m (30’) Colorado Blue Spruce which measures 6.4 m (21’) in diameter at its base.

Allen has lived in the Fortier Avenue home for approximately 24 years and both he and Sandra were in attendance as the Public Works Department’s Urban Forestry Branch removed the tree this morning.

The tree was loaded by crane onto a flat-bed truck in preparation for the move to City Hall on Friday morning.

A crane will be used to position the tree in front of City Hall at 510 Main Street on Friday, November 7, 2008 at approximately 10:30 a.m.

An Urban Forestry crew will then spend several days decorating the tree with over 5,000 LED lights.
