Westbound span of Fort Garry twin bridges rehabilitation project completed
 Released: 2:00 p.m.

NEWS @ A GLANCE:

Westbound span of Fort Garry twin bridges rehabilitation project completed. (for more details, please read the full media release below)

WINNIPEG - August 29, 2008 - The public is advised that the rehabilitation of the westbound span of the Fort Garry Twin Bridges over the Red River on Bishop Grandin Boulevard has been completed as scheduled. Over the coming weekend (August 30 – September 1), westbound traffic on Bishop Grandin Boulevard will be directed back onto the westbound structure and the detours will be closed.

There will be some minor construction activity associated with the re-opening this weekend, and some delays may still be experienced during the transition.

With the re-opening of the bridge, motorists traveling west on Bishop Grandin Boulevard will be provided with an additional exit lane from Bishop Grandin Boulevard onto Pembina Highway, with overhead signs directing traffic accordingly. Traffic on the eastbound structure, as well as at the River Road intersection will also return to normal.

Please be aware that after traffic has returned to normal operation, there will still be ongoing construction activity in the area completing this year’s work and preparing the detours for next year’s work on the eastbound structure. During this time, motorists, cyclists and pedestrians should continue to exercise extra caution in the area.

The cooperation and patience of the public during construction has been appreciated.
