The majority of the City of Winnipeg’s community wading pools will remain open until the end of August, as long as the weather lasts.  (for more details, please read the full media release below)

WINNIPEG - August 19, 2008 – Today, Clive Wightman, the City of Winnipeg’s Director of Community Services, announced that the majority of the City of Winnipeg’s community wading pools will remain open.

“Keeping the wading pools open is clearly the Mayor and Council’s intention, so that the public can take advantage of the warm weather. We are working to ensure that as many pools as possible are kept open until the end of August, as long as the weather lasts.”

While the City has closed its wading pools from mid- to late August due to cooler weather, political direction was given to extend the season if the weather remained warm. “We regret that some of the pools were closed prematurely,” said Wightman, “but we are working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.”

Though a few of the wading pools – those with very low attendance or in close proximity to other wading pools – will not be re-opened, most will, Wightman said. “We are now back up to 70% of our capacity and will continue to re-open additional pools in the coming days,” he said.

Further details regarding wading pool schedules will be available on the City’s website at winnipeg.ca, and posted at City libraries, community centres, and leisure centres.
