Winnipeg Transit celebrates 125 years of service at an Open House being held on Saturday, June 2, 2007 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Fort Rouge Garage, 421 Osborne Street. Winnipeg Transit employs 1,000 Bus Operators and plans to hire 100 new operators in 2007 to fill existing and anticipated vacancies. (for more details, please read the full media release below)

WINNIPEG - May 31, 2007- Winnipeg Transit celebrates 125 years of service at an Open House being held on Saturday, June 2, 2007 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Fort Rouge Garage, 421 Osborne Street.

Visitors are invited to tour the facility, check out the historic buses on display and more.

Interested in test driving a bus - and starting a new career?
Transit staff will also be on hand to answer questions about becoming a Bus Operator. Applications will also be accepted and prospective applicants will have the opportunity to drive a 30 foot transit bus. Job qualifications include a valid class 5 drivers’ license with zero demerits.

Bus Operators currently receive:

  • Fully paid six week training program
  • Starting hourly rate $14.63
  • Current maximum hourly rate $22.01 (after 5 years)
  • Guaranteed full time hours
  • Excellent benefits

Winnipeg Transit employs 1,000 Bus Operators and plans to hire 100 new operators in 2007 to fill existing and anticipated vacancies.
