Cankerworm control program delayed due to inclement weather

Due to unfavorable weather conditions yesterday evening and overnight, Insect Management Area 45 was not completed. Interested individuals may acquire more information by contacting the City’s Bugline at 311 Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or by visiting the City’s Insect Control website at Winnipeg.ca/bugline. WINNIPEG - May 22, 2007- On May 12, 2007 the City of Winnipeg’s Insect Control Branch commenced a cankerworm control program. The Insect Control Branch’s surveillance data indicates that many areas of Winnipeg will experience significant populations of cankerworms, which may result in significant defoliation.

Due to unfavorable weather conditions yesterday evening and overnight, Insect Management Area 45 was not completed.

Starting at 9:30 p.m. tonight, weather dependant, crews will continue treatment in Insect Management Area 45 and upon completion will begin treatment in Insect Management Areas 46, 47 and 50. The crews will be focusing on heavily foliaged areas that are at risk of significant leaf damage.

Citizens may register for a buffer zone if they do not wish spraying for cankerworm control to be carried out on or adjacent to their property.
