City appoints Fire & Paramedic Chief
WINNIPEG - April 30, 2007 - Annitta L. Stenning, Chief Administrative Officer for the City of Winnipeg, today announced that Mr. Jim Brennan has been appointed Fire & Paramedic Chief with the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS). Chief Brennan has worked for the City of Winnipeg in various capacities since 1977, when he began as an Emergency Medical Technician with the Winnipeg Ambulance Service.

City of Winnipeg Day of Mourning Ceremony
WINNIPEG - April 27, 2007 - Flags flew at half mast at City Hall today in remembrance of the 54 civic workers who have died since 1978 as a result of work-related causes. The Workers’ National Day of Mourning takes place across Canada on April 28th every year. It was proclaimed by Canada’s Parliament in 1991, and is now recognized in more than 90 countries.
City commences 2007 nuisance mosquito control activities
WINNIPEG - April 26, 2007 - The City of Winnipeg announced today the commencement of its surveillance and larviciding control activities for the upcoming nuisance mosquito control season. Fogging will be initiated only when the requirements of both the city policy, utilizing the AFA (Adulticiding Factor Analysis) Guidelines, and the provincial pesticide use permit are met.

WINNIPEG - April 13, 2007 - The City of Winnipeg License Branch, Bicycle Recovery Section will be holding its Annual Auction of unclaimed bicycles. Approximately 600 bicycles will be auctioned off on Saturday, and approximately 400 on Sunday.
City's annual Spring street cleanup commences
WINNIPEG - April 13, 2007 - The City's annual spring cleanup of streets, walks and boulevards is scheduled to begin Sunday night, April 15, 2007. The $3.5 million cleanup is expected to take four to five weeks and will involve approximately 200 pieces of equipment and more than 500 people.
