Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service and the United Fire Fighters of Winnipeg

NEWS @ A GLANCE:

At approximately 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 4, 2007, members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a fire in a two-storey home on Gabrielle Roy Place in St. Boniface. Tragically, while fighting this fire, six WFPS members were injured, two fatally. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the fallen and injured firefighters and all members of the Service at this most difficult time.

MEDIA RELEASE:

WINNIPEG February 5, 2007 - At approximately 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 4, 2007, members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a fire in a two-storey home on Gabrielle Roy Place in St. Boniface.

Tragically, while fighting this fire, six WFPS members were injured, two fatally. The names of the members involved in this tragic incident are not being released at this time pending notification of family. Of the injured, one member has been released from hospital, two are in stable condition and one is in critical condition at this time.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and no further details are currently available.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the fallen and injured firefighters and all members of the Service at this most difficult time.
