WINNIPEG June 8, 2006 - Winnipeg Transit is holding a Career Open House at its Fort Rouge Garage, 421 Osborne Street on Saturday, June 10, 2006 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

Visitors can talk with Transit Operators about a career at Winnipeg Transit and apply for the position of Bus Operator.

Instruction staff will be available to answer questions and discuss the hiring process.

Prospective applicants will be allowed to operate a 40,000 pound bus under the supervision of an instructor.

Operator starting wage is $14.06 per hour. Operators can earn up to $21.16 per hour.

Candidates must possess the following job qualifications:

• Valid regular class 5 (car) driver's license
• Demonstrated employment stability
• Mature judgment
• Minimum Grade 10 education
• Great people skills

Winnipeg Transit currently employs 950 Bus Operators and intends to hire 75 new drivers in 2006.
