WINNIPEG November 17, 2005 - Crews continue to work around the clock clearing snow from city streets, walks, and lanes in the aftermath of Monday’s 35 cm. snowstorm.
Clearing of Priority I (Regional) Streets was 96% complete as of 8 am this morning. The Major Snowfall Parking Ban has been lifted. The ban had prohibited parking on all Snow Routes between midnight and 6 am.
Crews will concentrate on the remainder of Priority II (Collector) Streets (50% complete at 8 am) and begin clearing Priority III (Residential) Streets tonight. To aid clearing of residential streets the Residential Overnight Parking Ban has been declared effective midnight tonight. This ban prohibits parking, between midnight and 6 am, on all streets not designated as Snow Routes. Vehicles parked on affected streets during the prohibited times are subject to being ticketed. The Residential Overnight Parking Ban will remain in effect for several days.
“We’re seeing an increase in the amount of equipment available to us,” says Bill Larkin, Director of Public Works, – “this will help speed up our progress in cleaning up the city.”
Plowing of all categories of sidewalks continues with 70% of Priority I walks and 20% of Priority II walks complete as of this morning.
50% of back lanes have been plowed with completion targeted for Saturday afternoon.
Snow hauling operations will begin tonight in the Downtown Area, in advance of Saturday’s Santa Claus Parade. Hauling will continue in various areas throughout the city for the next several weeks.
