WINNIPEG November 16, 2005 - Today was Day 1 on the five-day cycle. The majority of homes with Day 1 collection were serviced today.

The priority tomorrow (Thursday) will be to finish collecting from Day 1 homes and begin servicing Day 2 homes. Residents of Day 5 homes that weren’t serviced should take their garbage and recyclable materials back in and place them out for their next regularly scheduled collection day (Tuesday, November 22 – Day 5).

Collection days 2 and 3 may be also be delayed this week due to the road conditions. Residents on these collection days are encouraged to leave both their garbage and recycling materials out.

For apartment and commercial locations with garbage and recycling service, collection is behind schedule in some areas. Please remove the snow from around the containers and ensure there are no vehicles parked in front of the containers. We expect to be back on the regular schedule by the beginning of next week.

Residents are encouraged to:

  • Put their garbage and recycling materials out on their regular collection day prior to 7:00 a.m.
  • Leave some space between recyclables and garbage – i.e., garbage containers at one side of the driveway, and blue boxes at the other. This helps both the recycling and garbage operators identify what they should collect.
  • Avoid putting garbage bags/containers and blue boxes on top of snow banks.
  • Clear a path so that collectors can see and get to the garbage and blue boxes.

Recycling and garbage collection was suspended on Tuesday due to heavy snowfall.
