WINNIPEG - October 11, 2005 - Committed to developing new and stronger international economic ties, The City of Opportunity will join with the City of Fountains as Mayor Sam Katz leads a delegation to Kansas City, MO to sign an Economic Opportunity Partnership and take part in the 2005 North America Works Conference.
“Winnipeg is a key part of the mid-continent trade corridor, and the links forged at these events help ensure our economy prospers from this fact,” said Katz. “No city in Canada gets more value from trade and transportation than Winnipeg, and this delegation will build on our strong links with our partners elsewhere in North America.”
Katz will be joined on the trip by Dr. Don Reimer, President of Reimer World Corp; David Asper, Executive Vice-President of CanWest Communications; Stuart Duncan, President of Economic Development Winnipeg Inc., as well as officials from the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce. The delegation will attend the North America Works conference, and sign an Economic Opportunity Partnership with the city of Kansas City, MO.
The conference will focus on the changing role of cities in a modern economy, and will bring together the mayors of three key cities along the mid-continent trade corridor – Mayor Katz of Winnipeg; Mayor Kay Barnes of Kansas City; and Mayor Alejandro Paez of San Pedro Garza Garcia in Nuevo Leon, in Mexico.
