Rapid Transit Task Force update

WINNIPEG - MAY 06, 2005 - The Winnipeg Rapid Transit Task Force and Advisory Council is pleased to announce the second phase of their public consultations to be held at the Winnipeg Convention Centre on Saturday May 14, from 10:00am to 4:00pm and Monday May 16, from 4:00pm to 9:00pm. The Open House meetings will present the ‘Made in Winnipeg’ Rapid Transit System Concepts being considered by the Task Force.

“This is an opportunity for the citizens of Winnipeg to come out and have a look at some of the ideas being considered and to provide feedback and advice to the task force,” said Mayor Sam Katz.

The Rapid Transit Task Force was launched in November of 2004 to deliver a report by the summer of 2005. Since that time the Rapid Transit Task Force has been actively working on their mandate which has a large component for public consultations.

“Based on the public response to the concepts, the task force will proceed with the results of the public open houses and formulate a final report for Winnipeg City Council,” stated Task Force Chairperson, Councillor Russ Wyatt (Transcona).

In January 2005, 10 Public Workshops were held city-wide and were actively attended by Winnipeggers. The top 3 comments or ideas voiced at the meetings regarding our existing transit system involved issues of Speed, Reliability and Frequency of Service.
