Mayor Katz appoints Magnifico to ASD chair

WINNIPEG - MAY 05, 2005 - Committed to seeing the City of Winnipeg make more progress on the Alternative Service Delivery (ASD) front, Mayor Sam Katz today named St. Boniface Councillor Franco Magnifico as chair of city council’s ASD Committee.

“ASD opportunities must be explored carefully in order to deliver maximum value to taxpayers without distorting the efforts of private sector markets,” said Katz. “In my state of the city speech, I outlined several areas where the city needs to review its ASD portfolio. With Franco’s background in the private sector and the good work he has been doing with the Red Tape Commission, I am confident he can make sure the ASD file gets results for taxpayers.”

“I am excited to have this opportunity to work for better services and better value for taxpayers,” said Magnifico. “ASD services are a good way to bring an entrepreneurial approach to doing business and ensure taxpayers are getting the best possible bang for their buck.”

The ASD committee meets as necessary to consider administrative reports concerning innovative service approaches and the submissions of the city’s various Special Operating Agencies (SOAs).
