WINNIPEG - APRIL 15, 2005 - Mayor Sam Katz welcomed councillor elect Justin Swandel to city council today following his success in the by-election race in St. Norbert which concluded with a vote yesterday.

"I want to congratulate Justin Swandel for winning the trust of the people of St. Norbert," said Katz. "It’s important for the people of St. Norbert to have an effective voice here at city hall, and I know Justin will bring a fresh perspective to the issues facing both St. Norbert and all of Winnipeg."

The by-election in St. Norbert was called following the resignation of former city councilor John Angus. Justin Swandell will join fellow city councillors for his first regular meeting of city council on April 27th, 2005. Before that date, the Mayor will appoint a new councillor to chair the Alternative Service Development Committee of Council.
