Mayor champions kindness campaign WINNIPEG - MARCH 24, 2005 - Changing attitudes in Winnipeg takes more than money, and Mayor Sam Katz today endorsed “Love Winnipeg”, a grass roots community effort that will see up to 100 churches and thousands of individuals make a difference for the better by promoting acts of kindness. “Change for the better doesn’t always start at city hall,” said Katz. “It’s more than a policy, more than a program. It can start in every community, every corner of the city. Love Winnipeg is the sort of grassroots program that can make a real difference.” From May 29th to June 12th, some 100 churches and community organizations in Winnipeg will be reaching out to their communities through random acts of kindness. “It’s about taking action in each community, and finding a way to make a positive change. This effort will involve thousands of people and touch every corner of our city. I applaud the efforts of these community organizations for taking such a positive leadership role to change this city.” Love Winnipeg will endorse both group and individual activity. Examples of initiatives include everything from cleaning up yards and garbage in streets to visiting patients in hospitals and helping neighbours in daily work. |
