Mayor Katz leads sister city delegation to Philippines
WINNIPEG - JANUARY 26, 2005 - Committed to renewing and growing the positive aspects of our sister city partnerships, Winnipeg Mayor Sam Katz and Deputy Mayor Mike Pagtakhan will lead a delegation to the City of Manila to promote Winnipeg business, tourism, and education.
“Our city has plenty of opportunities to do business with our International communities,” said Mayor Katz. “Winnipeg has a vibrant Filipino community involved in every sector of our society. I believe that by strengthening our sister city commitment, we can increase tourism, attract young professionals, and let Manila know that Winnipeg is open for business.”
The delegation’s itinerary includes opportunities to speak with Filipino business leaders, government representatives, and potential international students. The delegation will also donate books which Deputy Mayor Pagtakhan has collected here in Winnipeg to Filipino students in need.
“This is a great opportunity to spread Winnipeg’s positive message to another area of the world, “ said Deputy Mayor Pagtakhan, “The roots of our multi-cultural society reach many corners of the world, and we can learn a lot by exploring them.”
This past December 31st marked the 25th anniversary of the Manila-Winnipeg sister city agreement. The delegation will be in the Philippines from January 27th until February 5th.
