WINNIPEG - September 24, 2004 - Councillor Jenny Gerbasi will recognize the recipients of the second Winnipeg Accessibility Award. This annual award highlights businesses, government facilities, organizations and/or design professionals who have created an environment which welcomes the active participation of all citizens. Several indoor and outdoor categories will be announced including large business, residential and government projects. This award celebrates some of the true successes. The winners have demonstrated community leadership in the area of Universal Design.

Councillor Jenny Gerbasi states “The City of Winnipeg is happy to recognize the efforts and achievements in the area of accessible design. Business, government and organizations have included the community in their decision making and have taken many positive steps in making their facilities usable by all citizens and visitors in Winnipeg. They are very positive role models for others.”

The organizing and selection committee was led by the Access Advisory Committee of the City of Winnipeg in cooperation with the Canadian Paraplegic Association, the Manitoba Human Rights Commission, Planning, Property and Development Department of the City of Winnipeg, Winnipeg Handi-Transit and Reaching E-Quality Employment Services. The Winnipeg Free Press was a sponsor for this event.
