Mayor to honour bright lights in the City

WINNIPEG - March 15, 2004 - Participants and organizers of the 2003 National WinterLights Celebrations will be honoured at a coffee reception hosted by Mayor Glen Murray and members of City Council tomorrow afternoon at City Hall.

Winnipeg is the winner of the 2003 Stars of Winterlights Celebrations category. The category also included Charlottetown, Metro Moncton, and Owen Sound, all of which have been past national winners.

WinterLights Celebration is a winter version of the popular Communities in Bloom program. Ten volunteer judges evaluated communities on the decoration of public, private, and commercial properties for visual presentation in dazzling lighting displays.

Take Pride Winnipeg, Economic Development Winnipeg Inc., West End BIZ, Downtown BIZ, the Forks North Portage Partnership, Manitoba Hydro, Christmas Cheer Board, CanadInn's Winter Wonderland, and the City of Winnipeg's Community Services and Transit departments were major partners for these events.

The reception will be held Tuesday, March 16th from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. in the second floor foyer of the Council Building, 510 Main Street.
