The doors of the Winnipeg Arena will swing open at 6 p.m. with official festivities set to get underway at 7 p.m. and last until 9 p.m.

The Blue Bombers, Lyle Bauer, and Dave Ritchie will arrive fresh from their Grey Cup game in Montreal, flanked by Buzz and Boomer. Special guest Premier Gary Doer will also attend.

“This football club has given us an extraordinarily entertaining season, and a tremendous sense of civic pride,” said Mayor Murray. “Win or lose this weekend, this is our chance to say thanks and applaud each player for their effort, energy and spirit of teamwork.”

Winnipeg Celtic rockers Fly on the Wall will provide entertainment along with the Winnipeg Police Pipe Band. The evening will be hosted by CJOB’s Larry Updike and Jim Ingebrigtsen.

Although the evening is free, Select-a-Seat will issue tickets beginning today on a first come, first serve basis for purposes of crowd control. Fans are asked to bring a “Blue and Gold” donation of Kraft dinner for Winnipeg Harvest.

Winnipeg police are reminding people not to drink and drive this Grey Cup weekend. Police advise that Roadwatch will be out in force both Sunday and Monday.

On Monday at 6 p.m., Winnipeg transit will provide a shuttle bus from Polo Park to the Arena entrance and following the party at 9 p.m., extra buses will be added at Empress to take people to transfer points downtown.

“Winnipeggers know how to enjoy a good party, but it is important to remember that what really matters is that no one gets hurt, ” said Mayor Murray. “I would ask the media to join me in reminding people attending Grey Cup house parties or bar parties on Sunday and Monday that it is worth leaving the car at home – hop on the bus, take a cab, or select a designated driver.”
