City Announces New Director of Planning Property and DevelopmentWINNIPEG - OCTOBER 30, 2001 - Today, Gail Stephens, Chief Administrative Officer for the City of Winnipeg, announced the appointment of the City’s new Director of Planning Property and Development. Mr. Harry Finnigan will commence his duties in February of 2002.
“Mr. Finnigan brings both strong credentials and commitment to this position, and I am happy to welcome him to our administrative team” said Gail Stephens. ”With his strong background in urban planning and development, especially downtown revitalization, he is well-equipped to help our City advance Council's priorities.”
Mr. Finnigan has, for the past four years, been the Executive Director of the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership. A native of Winnipeg, he received both his Bachelor of Commerce and Master of City Planning degrees at the University of Manitoba. From 1977 to 1982, he worked as a Manager with the City of Winnipeg's Planning Department. Since then, his experience has included such positions as Project Manager (Development) with the Winnipeg Core Area Initiative; Senior Development Officer and Manager of Communications for the North Portage Development Corporation; and Executive Director of the Downtown Business Improvement Zone from 1990 to 1997.
The City’s Planning, Property and Development Department provides services in the areas of property asset management, building inspections, property development management, heritage matters, housing policy, land acquisition, land development, planning and land use and riverbank management.
