Known as ‘eCIS’ the new service allows citizens to access a wide array of information related to their own property or other properties, simply by searching on a specific address, using on-line maps, or selecting from various categories. 

eCIS also provides a single point of access that allows citizens to access a wide variety of information on City services, including:

• information on public works services
• recycling and garbage collection day and next collection date 
• location of City libraries, community centers, heritage buildings,  emergency services facilities, and recreation facilities
• location of licensed businesses 
• location of City-owned properties for sale 
• property assessment 
• zoning information and interactive mapping 

The site also contains links to other civic department Web sites, and citizens can submit on-line service requests relating to public works activities.

“This is an early but very important step in utilizing the power of the Internet to provide better service to our citizens,” said Murray. “The Citizen Information Service provides a strong foundation from which to build our range of online information and services.”

Gail Stephens, the City’s Chief Administrative Officer, said, “this user-friendly initiative provides citizens with a wealth of information from multiple City departments, all accessible from the comfort of their home.

Stephens added, “future applications will include on-line processing and payment for various city permits and property-related service requests.”

“We are committed to making Winnipeg a leader in e-government,” said Murray. “The future of e-government is very exciting, and is limited only by our imagination.”
