December 18, 1998 - Jim Thomson, Directory of Public Works, has declared a Major Snowfall Parking Ban effective midnight tonight. The ban prohibits parking on all streets designated as Snow Routes between the hours of midnight and 06:00 a.m.

Motorists Reminded of Snow Route Overnight Parking Ban
December 17, 1998 - With snowfall predicted today and tomorrow motorists are reminded the annual Snow Route Overnight Parking Ban is in effect and will be full enforced. The ban, in effect from December 1, 1998 to March 1, 1999, prohibits parking on all streets designated as snow routes between the hours of 02:00 a.m. and 06:00 a.m..

City Urges Extreme Caution When Using Candles Over the Holidays
December 17, 1998 - The City's Emergency Response Service was required to put out three fires in the last week caused by the use of ornamental candles. Four people were taken to hospital for smoke inhalation and later released. In addition, these fires caused up to 1/4 of a million dollars in damages, and tremendous amount of emotional grief for the affected victims and their families.

Chinese Delegation Touring Winnipeg
December 7, 1998 - Mayor Glen Murray is inviting interested media to participate in a couple of events over the next several days as Winnipeg hosts a trade delegation from Chengdu. Chengdu is Winnipeg's sister city, located in the Sichuan province, fifteen hundred kilometres southwest of Beijing.

The City and Bill C-68 (Gun Control Law)
December 2, 1998 - Mayor Glen Murray and his colleagues on Executive Policy Committee today reaffirmed their support for the Chief of Police by applying for Intervenor Status in the Supreme Court case in favor of the federal legislation, Bill C-68, known as the gun control law.
