Audit Department
The Audit Department supports City Council and the Public Service by providing independent assurance on the performance of civic services in support of open, transparent and accountable government. Our primary client is City Council, through the Audit Committee. The value to Council is the ability to use credible information to make better decisions and to hold the Public Service accountable. Our stakeholders are civic managers and citizens who are the recipients of our public reports.
The Audit Department is headed by the City Auditor who is a statutory officer reporting to City Council through the Audit Committee. In 2009, the City Auditor's responsibilities were expanded to include the role of Chief Performance Officer. Our expanded role includes providing advice and recommendations on the definition and development of performance measures and assistance on the implementation of performance management systems. We believe that the availability of transparent performance information is essential for the citizens to understand how well services are being managed and will result in greater accountability for the dollars spent.
