Remember to remove all decorations, tinsel and plastic tree bags. We provide wood chip mulch free of charge (while quantities last) at all depots starting in early January. Please bring your own container.
We chip the trees and use the mulch for landscaping throughout the city. Christmas tree chips are great for woody (coniferous) shrub and tree beds. A 2 to 3-inch layer of mulch reduces moisture loss and prevents weed growth. It's not recommended for use in flower or vegetable gardens due to the high acid content in the pine needles.
Curbside pick-up of Christmas trees
For a small fee, SSCOPE, Inc.
, a Winnipeg non-profit organization, will pick up your Christmas tree and transport it to a depot. Contact SSCOPE at 987-6300 for details.
Thanks to all participating residents for taking the time to recycle your Christmas trees. Over the past 20 years, we've recycled over 295,000 trees, which has diverted 1344 tonnes of material from the City’s landfill.
