Money from municipal property taxes pays for residential garbage collection services, which is $15.1 million dollars per year or about 3.9% of property taxes.
The average cost per year for garbage collection services is:
- $60 for single-family homes and
- $34 for the average suite in an apartment building.
- We also provide garbage collection services to a number of small commercial properties. These properties generate less than 3 cubic metres of garbage per week. We charge these properties directly for this service based on garbage bin volume, which is $3.50 per cubic metre.
Garbage collection services includes all the costs and work involved in collecting the garbage at each home and disposing of it at Brady Road Landfill.
