Advice and permit information for your garage, shed or gazebo over 10 m² (108 ft.²)

To apply for your permit please visit the Zoning and Permits Office at Unit 31 – 30 Fort Street.

Detached Garages, Sheds & Gazebos
A 36-page booklet outlining the construction, zoning and electrical requirements for residential garages, sheds and gazebos.

Electrical Installations
A 32-page homeowners’ guide for electrical installations in single-family dwellings, detached garages and sheds.

Plumbing Installations
An 18-page homeowner’s guide of plumbing requirements for single-family dwellings.


Detached Accessory Building Includes:

  • Detached Garages
  • Gazebos
  • Greenhouses
  • Garden Sheds and other accessory structures (over 108 square feet in floor area)

Application Requirements:

Retail Lumber Store Garage Package

  • Copy of a Surveyor's Building Location Certificate OR Detailed Site Plan (may be acceptable) showing all property dimensions and location of all buildings
  • Completed Application Form
  • Completed Owner Statement

Non Package Garage

  • Copy of a Surveyor's Building Location Certificate OR Detailed Site Plan (may be acceptable) showing all property dimensions and location of all buildings 
  • 2 copies of construction and elevation drawings
  • Completed Application Form
  • Electrical Permit application - A separate permit is required for electrical work
  • Plumbing application - A separate permit is required for plumbing work
  • Completed Owner Statement

Each permit application requires all of the information shown on the Application Form and must be submitted in-person to the Zoning and Permits Office. Your application visit will take less time if you complete the Application Form in advance.
