COUNCILLOR CANDIDATES
The following is a summary of information and considerations
that all potential candidates for Councillor should be aware of before seeking election.
ELIGIBILITY
-
Persons eligible to be a candidate for Councillor must:
-
Be a Canadian Citizen;

Be at least 18 years of age on the day of the Election;

Be a resident of the Province of Manitoba;

Be a voter; and
-
Not be disqualified by law.
REGISTRATION PROCESS
-
Candidates must file a Notice of Registration with the Senior
Election Official and may register any time commencing Monday, January 26, 2009 and no later than Monday,
February 9, 2009, 4:30 p.m. At the time of registration, the candidate will be provided with his/her
Nomination Papers.

NOMINATION PROCESS

Candidates must file Nomination Papers in-person with the
Senior Election Official during the Nomination Period commencing Tuesday, February 3, 2009 through
to Monday, February 9, 2009. Nomination Papers must have a minimum of 25 signatures of voters whose
names appear on the voters list.

CAMPAIGN PERIOD

The Campaign Period commences Monday, January 26, 2009 and terminates
Monday, June 15, 2009. It is only during this period that Councillor Candidates can solicit contributions and
expend funds for the purposes of election after filing a Notice of Registration with the Senior Election Official.
EXPENSES AND CONTRIBUTIONS
-
The
Campaign and Expenses and Contributions By-law No. 5550/90
regulates campaign expenses and contributions for a candidate
including limits on the amount of contributions which may be received as well as the amount of expenses
that may be incurred. An Audited Financial Statement prepared by an accredited auditor, must be filed by
all candidates seeking election, within the prescribed deadlines.
